What does NPK stand for on a fertilizer label?

The numbers on a fertlizer label represent the values of three maconutrients used by plants - Nitrogen, Phosphhorus and Potassium.

7
N

Nitrogen

Nitrogen promotes rapid plant growth, encourages a dense lawn and produces a dark green color. The nutrient required in greatest amounts by lawn grasses is nitrogen.

15
P

Phosphorus

Phosphorus is important for establishing and maintaining a healthy, vigorous lawn. It is especially needed by young lawn grasses for the development of a strong and fibrous root system.

19
K

Potassium

Potassium increases grasses’ resistance to diseases and improves the hardiness of lawns to temperature and moisture stresses.

Understand your soil

Take the guesswork out of lawn fertilization and test your soil to improve the health of your lawn.

Sample it

Collect soil samples across different areas of your lawn.

Test it

Send soil to a testing laboratory to provide an analysis on major and minor nutrients.

Feed it

Feed your soil based on the results of the soil test.
